The Lovemakers / Hi Scores / Pretty, Handsome
Chic, dance-friendly Bay Area indie rockers The Lovemakers, earned a dedicated following in the early 2000s thanks in no small part to their sultry live show. Founded by Stanford-educated marine biologist, Lisa Light and multi-instrumentalist Scott Blonde, the group self-released an LP in 2003 which quickly sold out at local record stores while the live show took the Oakland warehouse scene by storm. Stardom strained Light and Blonde’s notoriously public relationship, but they went on to release acclaimed Times of Romance (Interscope), followed by two additional LPs before breaking up.
After an icy 4 year hiatus, the band reunited in 2011, and have been cherry-picking shows to sold-out venues throughout California.
Producer Stephen Tucker (Tucker) and vocalist Sierra Totten made pop duo Pretty, Handsome winter of 2015. The result is catchy, danceable beats mixed with powerful, emotive vocals. The pair are best friends which is apparent when you see their effortless chemistry during their very energetic live shows. “Love, Or Something Like It” marks the duo’s first full length album, culminating in 10 original songs that showcase their unique style and enigmatic sound.
HI SCORES is the brainchild of Oakland based producer Jason Stinnett aka JAYSONIK (HOTTUB/CA510/LE HEAT RECORDS) and Janaysa Lambert (MORTAR & PESTAL). Inspired by Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound juxtaposed with R&B harmonies and a 2 Step bounce, HI SCORES swerves between the two lane highway of fiction and fantasy.
