Creator guidelines and your account data
California Locals is a free community for people sharing useful, original perspectives on California. You keep ownership of your work. Editors choose which profiles and submissions to feature.
Your public creator profile
Choose the public name, biography, California communities, website, and social links you want readers to see. Your account email and private account details are not part of this profile. A profile is reviewed before it appears publicly. Updates return to review while your approved profile stays visible.
Share work you have permission to use
Submit your own writing and photos, or material you have permission to share. By submitting, you give California Locals permission to publish that submission with your chosen byline and promote it with credit and links to your profile or original work. Adding a social link does not transfer ownership of the original post. Respect privacy, avoid private contact details, and tell us about sponsorships, gifted experiences, or business connections.
Give neighbors something useful
Explain the California connection in your own words. Include first-hand observations, practical details, and reliable sources where appropriate. Avoid copied articles, misleading claims, repetitive promotions, and unsupported rankings. Editors review each story, check attribution, and may ask for changes before publishing.
Social accounts and automatic submissions
Your studio shows which connections are available and whether an account is connected. Where automatic importing is enabled, you authorize the provider directly and separately opt in to submitting new public content to our review queue. We store the access credentials encrypted on the server, use them only for the enabled connection, and do not display them publicly. We do not request permission to post to your account through the creator import connection.
Pausing stops new automatic submissions. Disconnecting stops local access and requests provider revocation. You can also remove access in the social platform’s own app-permission settings. Reconnecting or resuming starts with new content; it does not automatically backfill your history.
Withdraw content or request deletion
Open your creator studio to withdraw a story or hide your creator profile. Hiding a profile stops imports; existing stories have separate withdrawal controls. To request removal of your account or stored personal data, contact support while signed in and identify the account and content involved. We verify ownership before processing account requests.
